Biography

Scott grew up in suburban Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. He received his B.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in sculpture from the College of Wooster in 1997. Originally pre-med, he took a sculpture class during his first semester. While looking at one of the chairs in the sculpture studio, it suddenly occurred to him that the chair had been designed. Soon after, he discovered that this was the field of industrial design.

He received his MFA in industrial design from The Rochester Institute of Technology in the spring of 2000.  In addition to a strong industrial design department, he found his interactions with the mechanical and manufacturing engineering, wood working, and metal working departments to be invaluable to his development as a designer.

Upon graduation, he cut his teeth working as a designer for one of the world’s most influential designers, Michael Graves. While there, he designed products for Target, Dansk, Marshall Fields, and Delta Faucets among others. He gained experience in a broad range of categories that include housewares, electronics, furniture, soft goods, tabletop, and faucets, etc.

He started his own design practice in 2006 in Philadelphia, focusing mainly on housewares and consumer electronics. Clients include Fred and Friends (Owned by Lifetime Brands), Dansk (Owned by Lenox), Fresco Housewares, and PHAZ Music. In the last decade, he has lived and worked in Philadelphia, New York City and Birmingham, Alabama. Recently relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he and his wife are enjoying exploring the vibrant food scene and looking for a lot in downtown Pittsburgh.
